Another 5 MLS Kits Unveiled Friday Ahead of 2023 Season

With the 2023 season just over a week away, five Major League Soccer clubs launched new kits on Friday. One pays tribute to a country music legend, one is inspired by the team’s home stadium, and one takes its cues from a natural phenomenon.

Here’s a rundown of the new looks:

INTER MIAMI – Secondary

Inter Miami confirmed the worst-kept secret of the MLS offseason on Friday, officially releasing their new secondary kits. It features an embossed wave pattern in hoops across the front of the black jersey. It also introduces a new shade of pink, “Bliss Pink,” which is brighter than what the club has used before and reflects “the vibrant excitement of our fans and the City of Miami at night.” The new pink is used on the Adidas shoulder stripes, collar trim, side and hem stripes, side panels and sleeve cuffs.

MINNESOTA UNITED – Secondary

Minnesota United are trying to capture the majesty of the Northern Lights in the night sky in their new secondary kit. On the front, strips of color fade from white at the bottom to black, then pink, then light blue at the top. The shoulders and sleeves are light blue, with some pink visible near the black cuffs. The crew neck collar, Adidas shoulder stripes, side panels and side/hem stripes are also black, while the back is solid white. The loon from the club crest is isolated and rendered in black on the left chest — the first time it has appeared on an MNUFC kit without a shield.

NASHVILLE SC – Secondary

Nashville SC pay tribute to one of the greats of country music with their new secondary kit: Johnny Cash, “The Man in Black.” The solid black shirt has “iron metallic” and “dark graphite” accents, including the sleeve cuffs, collar trim, side panels and Adidas shoulder stripes. The club crest is rendered on the left chest in black and silver.

The jersey was designed in collaboration with the Johnny Cash Estate, Sandbox Succession and Wasserman Music, and is inspired by a tifo of Cash unveiled by supporters group The Backline during Nashville SC’s first-ever match in February 2020. Cash’s signature adorns the back collar, while the jock tag contains an iconic photo of Cash at Folsom Prison.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES – Primary

The San Jose Earthquakes are shaking things up with their new primary kit. The front of the kit is blue, with a pattern of black gradient parallelograms running diagonally across the front. The pattern is very similar to the one found on Real Madrid’s 2022-23 away kit, though its recolored from purple to blue. The back and shoulders are black, with the pattern continuing into the side panels. Blue trim appears around the sleeves and the collar, and the Adidas shoulder stripes are also blue. Sponsor logos appear in white.

ST. LOUIS CITY SC – Secondary

After unveiling their primary kit in November 2022, expansion franchise St. Louis City SC rounds out their inaugural look with their new secondary jersey. The “Arch Grey” jersey — which uses an older Adidas template than other MLS jerseys released so far for 2023 (as evidenced by “adidas” spelled out under the three stripes logo on the chest) — features “River Blue” pinstripes on the front and sleeves. It’s “inspired by the metallic and modern design” of the club’s home stadium, CITYPARK. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs are navy blue with “City Red” trim. A red triangle sits on the back collar with the words “CITY FOUNDER” inside. Sponsor logos on the chest and sleeves are black.
