The Arizona Diamondbacks became the third Major League Baseball team to announce they’ll wear an advertisement on their in-game jersey sleeves during the upcoming 2023 season, the league’s first allowing teams to place ads on uniforms.
Arizona will wear the logo of Avnet, a locally-based technology distributor and solutions provider. The patch shows two white diagonal lines with a teal bar in between them to form a triangle which also resembles the letter “A,” the company name is below in white, and the entire logo is placed on a rather large black square.
“We are excited to partner with locally-based Avnet primarily because of our aligned values that include a real commitment to our employees and our fans (customers) as well as a dedication to making a difference in the great state of Arizona through our community support and investments,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall in the official press release.
“It was natural for us to partner with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a home-grown team that is as dedicated to Arizona and its communities as we are,” added Avnet CEO Phil Gallagher. “As a global company, we’re dedicated to serving the communities in which our employees live, work and play, and we are excited to support the team’s work on and off the field while collaborating to make a difference in our community.”
Terms of the deal were not announced though the press release suggested this was a multi-year agreement.
The Diamondbacks now join the Boston Red Sox (MassMutual) and San Diego Padres (Motorola) as clubs with an ad on their jersey so far. When the National Basketball Association first allowed ads on jerseys, it took multiple seasons before all thirty teams adopted it; in the National Hockey League, going through its first season with jersey ads right now, less than half of the league has opted-in by this point.
