Pulling inspiration from the NHL line of the same name, the Arizona State football program announced on Tuesday afternoon it will wear new Valley Heat Reverse Retro uniforms against Colorado on Sept. 25.
The Sun Devils traditionally wear maroon jerseys over gold pants at home but this uniform flips the script and puts them in gold jerseys for the first time since 1990.
The jerseys are reminiscent of that era with “Arizona State” above maroon numbers. However, there are several key differences, including a metallic gold outline around the numbers and the maroon and metallic gold state flag on the sleeve caps.
The maroon pants feature a retro “ASU” wordmark on the right hip, while the gold adizero cleats include sublimated graphics of the Sun Devils’ “Forks Up” hand gesture.
The alternate uniform is complete with Arizona State’s traditional gold helmet with an oversized Sparky on both sides, a maroon facemask and single maroon stripe down the center. It should be noted that the helmet is glossy after 10 seasons with a matte gold lid.
