Arsenal, Manchester City, RB Leipzig Unveil New Kits for 2022-23

As domestic soccer seasons draw to a close around Europe, more teams got a head start on the 2022-23 season by releasing their new kits this week. This includes two clubs from England’s Premier League and one from the German Bundesliga. Let’s dive into the details of these new kits …

ARSENAL – Home

Premier League side Arsenal’s new home kit for 2022-23 continues their recent run of ’90s-inspired kits since switching to Adidas in 2019. The kit was unveiled Thursday — confirming leaked photos that surfaced online back in March — and will be worn Sunday in their final match of the 2021-22 season against Everton. It maintains Arsenal’s usual home motif of a red shirt with white sleeves, but adds details that call back to the 1995-96 season, including a zigzag pattern on the white polo collar and red underarm panels.

The shorts that go with the shirt are white with red Adidas stripes and inserts at the hems. The socks are red with four zigzag lines around the middle, two above and two below an “AFC” monogram on the front.

MANCHESTER CITY – Home

Meanwhile, Manchester City — in the thick of a tight race for the 2021-22 Premier League title — are reaching even further back in their history for the inspiration for their 2022-23 home kits. City are taking it back to the club’s successes in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when they won every domestic title available and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1970. Of particular importance was Colin Bell — “Colin the King,” as he was known to fans — who is memorialized with a crown logo printed inside the collar of the new kits.

The shirt itself is City’s familiar shade of light blue, but the crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are maroon with white stripes through the middle. The club crest and Puma logo are centered on the chest, above the sponsor logo. A silhouette of a sailboat, similar to the one found in City’s crest, appears in navy blue on the back collar with “CITY” written underneath.

The home jerseys will normally be paired with white shorts, but Puma have also produced maroon shorts in case of a colour clash. The socks are light blue with a maroon-and-white stripe around the middle and “CITY” written in navy blue on the front.

RB LEIPZIG – Away

German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig unveiled their new away kit, manufactured by Nike, for 2022-23 on Tuesday, May 17. It’s bright red with what the club calls a “large, dynamic burgundy stripe pattern” on the front. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are also burgundy, as are stripes running down the sides of the shirt. It will be paired with red shorts and socks.
