Atlético de Madrid Goes with the Flow for 2022-23 Home Kits — Plus More Unveilings from Scotland, Portugal, France

Perennial Spanish La Liga contenders Atlético de Madrid are rolling down the river with their new home kits for the 2022-23 season.

The club unveiled the Nike-manufactured kit — as well as their away kit and some information about other 2022-23 jerseys — on Monday, June 13. Atlético’s traditional red-and-white stripes get a bit of a literal twist this year, as they wave down the front of the shirt in honour of the Manzanares river, which flowed next to the club’s old home ground, the Vicente Calderón stadium.

The away kit (above, left) is black with dark blue and light blue details on the collar and sleeve cuffs.

Atlético also announced on Monday that they will unveil a third kit in August, prior to the start of their 2022-23 UEFA Champions League campaign. And, in April 2023, they will mark their 120th anniversary by unveiling a fourth kit inspired by the club’s original blue-and-white kits from 1903 (seen below).

Atlético’s women’s team continues to be sponsored by Herbalife Nutrition. An announcement about a new main sponsor for the men’s team is expected in the next few weeks.

CELTIC FC – Away

Defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic FC and manufacturer Adidas are updating a classic look from 30 years ago for their 2022-23 away kit. Drawing inspiration from their 1992-93 away kit, the 2022-23 edition is mostly black, with green vertical chalk stripes bordered in white down the front and sleeves. The crew neck collar is black, while some green trim is present on the outside half of each sleeve cuff. The club crest sits inside a black shield on the left chest.

FC PORTO – Home

The new 2022-23 home kit for Portuguese Primeira Liga powerhouses FC Porto, made by New Balance, is “an ode to tradition,” according to the club. It features the club’s traditional home look of blue-and-white vertical stripes on the front, with a blue V-neck collar and solid blue sleeves. The wide sleeve cuffs are a slightly darker shade of blue than the sleeves, and have a white vertical stripe. The back of the shirt has a solid white block for names and numbers.

RACING CLUB DE LENS – Home

French Ligue 1 side Racing Club de Lens is reaching back to the 1980s for inspiration for their 2022-23 home kits. Much of the body is yellow with red vertical pinstripes. The pinstripes stop at a horizontal red stripe at mid-chest; above that is a broad yellow band containing the club crest and logo of manufacturer Puma. The shoulders and sleeves are solid red, and the sleeve cuffs are solid black. The V-neck collar has black inserts at the front and back.
