Bayern Munich Mark 125th Anniversary With Special Crest, Jersey

German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are marking the club’s 125th anniversary with a special crest and jersey highlighting their history and achievements.

Bayern Munich was initially founded on February 27, 1900. Since then, the club says, it “has been creating legends and uniting people through its unmistakable identity.” To that end, the special edition jersey “symbolises history and the present, and its wearers want to write further chapters in the future — players and fans alike.”

The base of the jersey is a darker shade of red than Bayern typically wears, and it features a tonal pattern with ornate shapes surrounding different variations of the Bayern crest from throughout the club’s history. The pattern also incorporates elements from the three stadiums Bayern has called home over the years: the Grünwalder Stadion, the Olympiastadion and the Allianz Arena. The dark red base is accented with gold striping on the sleeve cuffs and shoulders, as well as gold sponsor logos on the left sleeve and chest.

The special insignia on the left chest features the Bayern Munich crest inside a shield with “125” above. Laurels surround the outside of the shield. It “incorporates elements from the founding charter, the shape of the coat of arms and the Bavarian laurel wreath,” the club says. “Golden details round off the design and give it a modern touch.”

To add to the vintage feel, manufacturer Adidas is using its classic trefoil logo in gold on the right chest.

The jersey also features a special gold patch on the right sleeve that highlights all the trophies Bayern has won over its history, including 33 Bundesliga championships, 20 DFB-Pokals and six UEFA Champions League titles.

At Bayern’s annual general meeting in December 2024, members voted to retire the number 5 in honour of club legend Franz Beckenbauer after he passed away earlier that year. But Bayern is giving fans the option to put the defender’s name and number on the back of their anniversary jersey through the club’s online shop.

Bayern’s men’s first team will wear the anniversary jerseys in their Bundesliga match against VfL Bochum at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, March 8. The women’s first team will wear them on Friday, March 14, when they host VfL Wolfsburg.
