Bayern Munich Raises A Glass to Oktoberfest with Fourth Kit

Defending German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are raising a glass to Oktoberfest with a special fourth kit, to be worn this weekend.

The jerseys, made by adidas, are solid dark green, with gold accents like sponsor logos, adidas shoulder stripes and trim on the sleeve cuffs that create “a connection to the classic lederhosen look,” according to the club’s website.

The Bayern Munich crest is also monochromatic gold, and is embellished with an edelweiss flower and leaves. An edelweiss flower — which is “typical of Oktoberfest,” according to the club — is also embroidered into the back collar.

The kit is “intended to express the club’s bond with its home and its traditions, and to show what Oktoberfest and the German record champions are known for globally: openness, socialising, a joy of living and a sense of tradition.”

The shorts that go along with the jersey are black with gold accents, and the socks are dark green with a tonal pattern inspired by the flag of Bavaria and gold accents.

Munich’s Oktoberfest is the largest Volksfest — or beer festival and travelling funfair — in the world and usually runs for 16 to 18 days starting in mid- to late September. Unfortunately, it was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 edition was scheduled to start this weekend, but once again has been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Bayern Munich will wear their Oktoberfest kits when they host VfL Bochum at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, Sept. 18.
