The defending American League champion Toronto Blue Jays will celebrate their 50th season with a gold-trimmed trip to the past in 2026.
This morning, the Blue Jays unveiled a commemorative 50th season logo, which will appear on the right sleeve of their home, road, and alternate jerseys. It will also be worn on the right side of their City Connect cap. The Blue Jays joined the American League as an expansion team for the 1977 season, along with the Seattle Mariners.
It’s a callback to commemorative season logos of the past for the Jays, who are going with a style similar to what they used when celebrating their 10th season in 1986 and their 20th in 1996. A “50” in the club’s original split-style numbers, with the “0” replaced by something resembling the Blue Jays’ first logo, presented in the 1977-2003 Jays’ colour scheme of blue, turquoise, and red. A gold outline, to symbolize their 50th season, is added to the outside of the logo.

Yes, I said “resembling” the first logo. There’s something not quite right about it, specifically the maple leaf, and I’m not entirely sure what happened to it during the creation process. See that curl in the lower left corner of the leaf? The club’s release called it their “vintage maple leaf,” but even the leaf used in their original 1976 logo announcements didn’t look like this. Honestly, I’m assuming whoever was tasked with the creation of the logo quite simply made an error.

Nevertheless, despite that little abnormality (which will certainly inspire some sort of “sit down, dad!” type rant from me every time I watch the team this year), I’m actually quite pleased with the logo, and, if my mockup below is a reliable indication of reality, it looks pretty darn good on the sleeve of their uniform.

No other uniform-related celebrations for the upcoming season were announced by the club, though the team did recently tease that cap-related news was on the way. So, feel free to speculate away.

Toronto joins the Chicago Cubs (150) and Seattle Mariners (50) as clubs that have announced an anniversary jersey patch for the upcoming season. The Blue Jays will welcome the Athletics for their season opener on March 27, and it looks like they’ll be getting a little gold on their uniforms afterall, despite that slightly-too-short-of-a-lead-off of third.
