Broncos, Chargers To Recreate Last Season’s Uniform Matchup On Monday Night Football

Since they unveiled their current uniform design ahead of the 1997 season, there have only been two occasions where the Denver Broncos have not worn a navy blue helmet with a white jersey and pants when playing the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers on the road.

That includes 2009, when they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the AFL’s founding with throwback uniforms that featured a brown helmet, white jersey and brown pants, as well as 2016, when they debuted their Color Rush uniforms, which pair a navy blue helmet with an orange jersey and pants.

Denver went 1-1 in those games, but is 13-10 since 1997 when wearing their standard road uniforms in Los Angeles or San Diego. They have not yet played the Rams in Los Angeles since they relocated from St. Louis, meanwhile, so that record remains the same whether or not we specify the Chargers.

Speaking of relocating, the Chargers have worn white helmets with powder blue jerseys in four of their five meetings with Denver since moving to Los Angeles in 2017. They’ve paired them with white pants three times (2-1) and and gold pants just once (1-0), a look that will return this evening.

The 2018 matchup, on the other hand, featured Los Angeles in white helmets with navy blue jerseys and pants, and Denver snuck by with a one-point victory on the road. That said, the Chargers are 2-0 at home against the Broncos since debuting their current uniform set ahead of the 2020 season, including a 34-13 win last season.
