Bucks Announce Wisconsin Herd As Name of D-League Team

Wisconsin Herd Announcement

The Milwaukee Bucks have announced this morning that their new NBA D-League team will be known as the Wisconsin Herd. The Herd will play out of Oshkosh, a city of 65-thousand people located about 80 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

The Herd name is a reflection of the Bucks brand, while the usage of Wisconsin as the geographic identifier represents the Bucks “as a state-wide organization from the top-down”.

“The Wisconsin Herd is so much more than a team name; it’s a brand that embodies a group of players fighting to join the Milwaukee Bucks, along with an excited fan base ready to rally behind Wisconsin’s newest team,” Wisconsin Herd President Steve Brandes said in the press release. “We hope the people of the Fox Valley join the Herd today with family-affordable season tickets to watch future NBA talent.”

No logo was unveiled today, that will be coming in two weeks at a special event in Oshkosh on June 22nd.

The Wisconsin Herd are officially an expansion team joining the NBA D-League, they will join the Agua Caliente Clippers and Memphis Hustle as new teams in the league next season. Other changes include the Erie Bayhawks relocating to Lakeland, Florida where they will be known as the Lakeland Magic, and two teams changing their name but remaining in their current location — the Iowa Engery are now the Iowa Wolves, and the Los Angeles D-Fenders are now the South Bay Lakers. The league is also undergoing a name changing, switching from the NBA Development League (D-League) to the NBA Gatorade League (G-League).
