The Buffalo Bills unveiled a new logo on Tuesday morning that commemorates their farewell season at Highmark Stadium and announced they’ll wear it as a patch on their jerseys for one game this season.
The stadium – which is located in Orchard Park, New York – was known as Rich Stadium when it opened in 1973, becoming one of the first examples of teams selling the name rights after they signed a 25-year, $1.5 million deal with Rich Products, a local food products company.
That remained until 1998, when the stadium was renamed after late founder and owner Ralph Wilson. It was also known as New Era Field from 2016-19 and (temporarily) Bills Stadium until the franchise announced a 10-year naming rights deal with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York in 2021.
The Bills have since broken ground on a new $2.1 billion, 62,000-seat stadium – which will also be called Highmark Stadium as an extension of their current deal – in 2023. It is being built across the street from the existing venue and is set to open next season.
The NFL will reveal Buffalo’s 2025 schedule on Wednesday evening, with home dates against the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Presumably, the Bills – who are looking to capture their sixth consecutive AFC East title this fall – will either wear the patch in the home opener to kick off the season-long celebration or they’ll wear it during the venue’s final regular season game in early January.
