Buffalo Bisons celebrate Superhero Night with Super Celery uniforms

The Triple-A Buffalo Bisons will become the second minor league baseball team to wear celery-themed uniforms this season when they take the field in Super Celery uniforms this weekend. The celery uniforms are based on a racing mascot who competed against other mascots, Chicken Wing, Atomic Wing, and Bleu Cheese, at Bisons games for seven seasons. Celery, winless in roughly 450 races since his debut in 2011, announced his retirement before the end of last season, then went on to claim his only win in his final race on the second-to-last day of the season.

The Bisons will commemorate the touching story on their annual Superhero Night, Saturday, August 11, promoting mere mortal and formerly hapless Celery to mythical Super Celery status. Their Super Celery uniforms will include a “Just One Win” patch, a tribute to Celery’s lone victory.

Earlier this season, the Single-A Wilmington Blue Rocks wore uniforms featuring their longtime alternate mascot, Mister Celery (a game that I attended and received a Mister Celery bobblehead). We covered that promotion on this site here. Whether minor league baseball is big enough for two celery-themed promotions, we’ll find out this weekend.

The Bisons’ Super Celery jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Superhero Race & Wellness Walk, which raises funds and awareness for mentorship and advocacy programs.
