Capital One Becomes Presenting Sponsor Of The Rose Bowl

The College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl won’t be played in Pasadena on Jan. 1 due to coronavirus restrictions in California, so top-ranked Alabama and No. 4 Notre Dame will instead meet at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. But that won’t be the only change for “The Granddaddy of Them All,” as it will now be presented by Capital One.

“We’re honored to be presenting sponsor of the 107th Rose Bowl and cheer on two great teams in this highly anticipated game,” Capital One chief brand officer Marc Mentry said in a statement. “Being a part of the Rose Bowl, especially when it is host to a College Football Playoff semifinal game, is a special opportunity for us to connect with fans around one of America’s most storied sporting events. While this year’s game will certainly look different than most, sports continues to be a great unifier and bright spot.”

Capital One is a bank that specializes in credit cards and home and auto loans. It is also the title sponsor of the Orange Bowl, which will be played between North Carolina and Texas A&M on Jan. 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

“The Rose Bowl Game is excited to partner with Capital One as the presenting sponsor of its annual New Year’s Day matchup,” said Pasadena Tournament of Roses CEO and executive director David Eads. “Capital One has long been a strong supporter of college athletics and they will be a valued addition to The Granddaddy of Them All.”

Originally presented by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, the Rose Bowl has since been sponsored by AT&T (1999-2002), Sony/PlayStation 2 (2003), Citi (2004-10), Vizio (2011-14) and Northwestern Mutual (2015-20).

As mentioned, 107th Rose Bowl will pit the Crimson Tide and Fighting Irish with a trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship on the line. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET on ESPN.
