CFL’s Edmonton Elks Unveil Revamped Uniforms

After a year of wearing makeshift uniforms, the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Elks have new duds to go along with their new name and new helmets.

The Elks unveiled the uniforms via their social media channels and website on Friday, May 20, with some help from local high school football players. The front of the green home jersey features a white Elks wordmark above white numbers with no outline. Three gold stripes around each sleeve are interrupted by a white Elks alternate logo of antlers forming the shape of a football. The sleeve design harkens back to jerseys the team wore in the 1970s, the 1980s and first half of the 1990s.

The white away jersey features a contrasting green collar and a green Elks wordmark above green numbers, again with no outline. The stripes running under the logo on each sleeve are again gold.

The backs of both jerseys feature solid one-colour names and numbers with no outlines.

The gold pants have a green stripe running down each side. A white antler-football logo is repeated inside the stripe. These pants, along with solid green socks, were pictured on Friday with both jerseys.

The uniforms go along with the Elks’ new helmets, which were unveiled on March 3. Those helmets bring back the team’s classic double-E logo in green on a yellow shell.

The team officially changed its name to the Elks in June 2021, a year after announcing they would drop their old nickname. For the 2021 CFL season, the Elks wore what appeared to be their uniforms from before the change, but with an “EDMONTON” patch over the old name on the front and a different number font. The numbers were also changed from gold to white on the green home jersey.

The new uniforms will see their first action on Friday, May 27, when the Elks travel to Winnipeg for a preseason matchup against the Blue Bombers. They’ll be worn for the first home at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton the following week when the Elks host the Calgary Stampeders in another preseason game on Friday, June 3.
