Today, the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks unveiled a slew of events to celebrate their upcoming 10th anniversary season in 2024. Of note to us, of course, is their new 10th anniversary logo and the news of a new uniform coming in May.
“It’s crazy how quickly time flies, and I can’t believe we’re already at the 10-year mark,” Ottawa Redblacks’ President Adrian Sciarra said in the press release. “When we look back on it, there have been some amazing accomplishments and moments that deserve celebration, so we’re excited to look back at them. At the same time, we’re going to use it as a launching pad for the next 10 years.”
The anniversary logo features the Ottawa Redblacks logo — a letter “R” in white placed on a black sawblade with red trim. Behind the blade is a black ribbon showing the years 2014 and 2024 on either side in white and two red axes trimmed in black, white, and red, forming an “X,” the Roman numeral for ten.
As for the new uniform, no details were released aside from a launch date of May 2024 and a tease that the new look will be “retro-inspired.”
“Our fans have seen some brand elements that are retro-inspired over the last couple seasons,” Sciarra added. “We’re going to take that a step further this year, and we’re excited to launch a new 10th anniversary crest, a new uniform, and a line of merchandise that will support all of that.”
The Ottawa Redblacks announced their name and logo in 2013, about a week after we kinda spoiled the surprise (sorry). In the ten years since Canada’s capital city team won a Grey Cup in 2016 and absorbed the franchise history of Ottawa’s previous CFL entities—the Rough Riders and Renegades. While the uniform design has been tweaked slightly in the ensuing decade, the Redblacks still wear the same black helmet with sawblade-R on the side as they have since day one.
