The Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts will pay tribute to an industry that was born in their city when they take to the field as the Chattanooga Wreckers. Per the team, the identity recognizes Chattanooga as the birthplace of the wrecker, a nickname for tow truck, and of the towing industry. Chattanooga’s claim to being the birthplace of the towing industry is reinforced by the International Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame & Museum, which is located in the city.
The primary mark features a vintage wrecker in orange inspired by Ernest Holmes Sr., who is credited with inventing the tow hitch more than a century ago.
“Having the opportunity to tell the story of a homegrown industry, an industry that was born and built right here in Chattanooga, is a unique opportunity” said Lookouts Vice President Andrew Zito, quoted on the team’s website. “The Lookouts and the towing industry have been a staple of Chattanooga for more than 100 years. We are super excited to bring this identity to life throughout our 2024 season.”
The Wreckers will take the field six times in 2024, including April 26, April 27, June 16, July 12,, August 3, and August 29. The April games will feature a Wreckers car air freshener giveaway.
