Chelsea, Manchester City Headline Recent 2022-23 Kit Unveilings from Around Europe

Premier League side Chelsea FC are keeping the theme from their 2022-23 home kits going into their away kits for the new season.

The club unveiled its away kit on Friday, August 5 — the eve of their first Premier League match of 2022-23 — at the same time as unveiling their newest signing, left back Marc Cucurella. The shirt uses Nike’s new Vaporknit template, and is predominantly white with narrow turquoise hoops.

Each turquoise hoop contains the same lion pattern as is found woven into the collar of Chelsea’s home kit for 2022-23. Each also has a blue stripe near the bottom.

As Chelsea’s blue home kit clashes with Everton’s blue home kit, the away kit will likely be worn when the two sides sqaure off at Goodison Park on Saturday. However, fans won’t be able to order the jersey, either online or in stores, until August 31.

MANCHESTER CITY – Third

While their home and away kits for 2022-23 looked to the past, Premier League side Manchester City is looking to the future with its third kit. The shirt was launched in the metaverse and features bright, futuristic colors — “Fizzy Light” and “Parisian Night,” as the club and Puma call them. The black hoops themselves are inspired by the Manchester Worker Bee, and the spray paint effect near the sides is inspired by street art in the city.

LEEDS UNITED – Away

Premier League side Leeds United have gone psychedelic for their 2022-23 away kit, made by Adidas. The shirt features a bespoke yellow-and-blue tie-dye print for a “modern take on some of our iconic yellow kits from the ’70s,” the club says. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs are solid yellow, while a solid yellow block on each shoulder houses blue Adidas stripes. There is also a solid yellow panel on the back for player names and numbers.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST – Third

On their return to the Premier League after 23 years, Nottingham Forest are making a bold statement with their 2022-23 third kit, made by Macron. The shirt features a sublimated blue and coral pink pattern atop a navy blue base. Forest have yet to announce a front-of-shirt sponsor ahead of the new season.

SOUTHAMPTON FC – Third

After drawing inspiration from the sea for their away kit, Premier League side Southampton pay tribute to their home city’s military aviation history with their 2022-23 third kit, made by Hummel. The shirt features a dark green and black geometric pattern inspired by propeller blades. Each side panel contains four color swatches — yellow, white, red and blue — inspired by roundels used by the Royal Air Force in World War II.

OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE – Away

French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille rolled out their away kits for 2022-23, made by Puma, in a preseason friendly against Spain’s Real Betis on July 27. The shirt is mainly navy blue, with a crosshatch pattern embosses all over. The sleeve cuffs, club crest and Puma logos are the shade of bright blue that Marseille is known for but is conspicuously absent from their 2022-23 home kits.

AJ AUXERRE – Away

AJ Auxerre are back in Ligue 1, and and they’ll be back in black with their 2022-23 away kits, made by Macron. The kits are solid black, with blue and white trim on the sleeve cuffs and the polo collar.

STADE RENNAIS – Away

Like their red home kit, French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais’s white away kit for 2022-23, made by Puma, is adorned with a tonal pattern of ermines from the flag of Brittany. Aside from the ermines, the only other embellishments are black stripes through the center of the V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs.

STADE DE REIMS – Third

In stark contrast to their red home kits and white away kits, French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims is going with a striking black third kit, made by Umbro, for 2022-23. The shirt features a geometric pattern of grey and red lines on the black base. The sleeves are solid black.

CÁDIZ CF – Home and Away

Spanish La Liga side Cádiz CF presented their new home and away kits for 2022-23, made by Macron, earlier this week. The home kit maintain the club’s traditional all-yellow shirt, but this time incorporates narrow embossed hoops. Blue trim appears on the collar and sleeve cuffs, as well as on half an insert at the front of the collar.

The away kit features a halftone gradient of triangles that fades from dark blue at the top of the shirt to light blue at the bottom. There is yellow trim on the sleeve cuffs and the polo collar. The club crest is applied in one-color yellow.

TORINO FC – Third

Torino FC’s third kit for 2022-23, made by Joma, puts a modern twist on the club’s traditional colours. The front of the shirt is mostly Torino’s usual shade of burgundy — though it fades to a darker shade near the middle — with a fine pattern of rectangles overtop. The raglan sleeves and crew neck collar are solid burgundy, while the club crest and sponsor logos are rendered in neon green.
