The Chicago Bears have changed their logo for the 2023 season.
I mean, technically, they did, but not really.
Basically, what the Bears did here was what many Major League Baseball clubs have done in recent seasons — swapped around one frequently used logo with another. The difference to (non-logo-obsessed) fans will be unnoticeable.
But still, a change did happen.
The previous (co-)primary logo, the familiar orange, white, and blue wishbone-C mark, seen most often on each side of the Chicago Bears’ helmets, is now the club’s “secondary logo.” Despite the change in designation, it will remain on their helmets as if nothing had ever happened.
The blue-and-orange bear head logo, which was previously officially a co-primary logo along with the wishbone-C, is now the standalone primary Bears logo.
That’s it! That’s the change.
Our website here had chosen the wishbone-C logo to feature as the primary logo all these years because the Bears themselves had requested the “C” be treated as the only primary mark for use on any web or digital applications. As a website, we qualify for that one.
In a statement to NBC Sports Chicago, the Bears said, “The Bear head has been a co-primary mark for many years. It is unique to the Chicago Bears brand. This minor change simply provides clarity for retail, media, and other team and league partners to start the creative process with the Bear head.”
The Chicago Bears logo swap is the only change to a primary logo by an NFL club for the 2023 season.
