Cincinnati Bearcats Unveil 1970s Throwback Uniforms

The Cincinnati men’s basketball program announced on Friday it will wear new 1970s throwback uniforms during its Feb. 3 game against Memphis and Feb. 26 matchup with South Florida.

The white Under Armour uniforms feature “The Cats” in a red script across the front chest, with a custom block number font below that. The numbers were actually off to the side on the original set, but NCAA rules mandate they must be centered on today’s uniforms.

In addition to the contrasting collar and armholes, there’s a single red stripe on the waistband and at the bottom of the shorts. There’s also a wavy red stripe down the sides of the shorts, which feature a vintage Bearcat logo on the left leg.

Unfortunately, NCAA rules state that a majority of the shorts must be the same color as the jersey, preventing Cincinnati from wearing the fully striped shorts the program wore back in the 1970s, when they reached three straight NCAA tournaments under former head coach Gale Catlett.

In addition to the uniforms, the Bearcats will make several changes to their in-game presentation for the matchups with the Tigers and Bulls. That includes some nods on social media and Fifth Third Arena’s video boards to Armory Fieldhouse, Cincinnati’s home venue from 1954-76.

With that said, check out more photos of the uniforms below:
