Cincinnati Bengals To Unveil New Uniforms This Spring

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Thursday morning they’ll unveil new uniforms this spring.

This will mark the fourth major uniform change for the Bengals since their inception in 1968 and first since since the current set was introduced ahead of the 2004 season, though the franchise did introduce a Color Rush uniform in 2016 that was inspired by the white tiger.

The current uniforms have been a major point of contention thanks to the custom number font and white side panels on both the home black and orange alternate jerseys, as well as the orange yoke on the white road set. Thus, fans have been clamoring for a return to the striping pattern that mimics UCLA stripes on the shoulders with a traditional number font.

That said, sources have told SportsLogos.net that the Bengals iconic orange helmet, which features six black tiger stripes, will not change with the rebrand. It has been a major part of the franchise’s look since it was introduced by then-owner Paul Brown in 1981.

The only other helmet Cincinnati has ever worn was orange, stripeless and featured a Bengals wordmark on both sides. It was paired with a gray facemask from 1968-79 and with a black facemask in 1980.

Eight teams unveiled new or modified uniforms last offseason, including the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Football Team.

The Bengals are the first to announce their intentions this year, a move that makes sense as the franchise continues forward with Joe Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, under center.
