As clubs from across Europe top domestic football leagues get ready to kick off their preseason tours, some in front of fans on the other side of the world, new kits for the new season are getting unveiled at a breakneck pace. Here’s a look at some of the unveilings from the past few days:
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION – Away
English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion are turning back the clock for their 2023-24 away kit, made by Nike. Ten years ago, Brighton debuted a black-and-green-striped away kit, and now they’re going back to that color scheme for the coming season. This time around, though, the green stripes are flanked by white pinstripes, and the collar and sleeve cuffs are green while the shoulders and sleeves are solid black. The club crest on the left chest is rendered in black and white.
EVERTON FC – Home
OK, this admittedly is a kit reveal that slipped under our radar, as Everton unveiled their home kits for the 2023-24 Premier League season, made by Hummel, in late June. The kit retains their traditional blue color, with a white polo collar and sleeve cuffs. Woven into the collar and cuffs are a blue pattern that pays homage to the famous Archibald Leach pattern at their home stadium, Goodison Park. White Hummel chevrons run down the shoulders.
RC CELTA DE VIGO – Home
Spanish La Liga club RC Celta de Vigo is celebrating its 100th season in 2023-24 in classy throwback home kits made by Adidas. The base of the shirt is the club’s traditional sky blue color, and the Adidas logo and shoulder stripes are also sky blue to blend in with the rest of the shirt. The sponsor logo on the chest appears in monochrome white. A special centenary crest appears on the left chest of the shirt, while the back collar features a monogram that celebrates the two clubs that merged to create RC Celta de Vigo as it is today: Real Vigo Sporting and Real Club Fortuna de Vigo.
VALENCIA CF – Home
Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF pay tribute to the “Mediterranean lifestyle” with their 2023-24 home kits, made by Puma. Like most Valencia home kits, the base of this year’s shirt is white. It also has a black collar and sleeve cuffs with sand-colored trim in incorporated into both. A black chevron sits at the front of the collar. Puma logos on the chest and sleeves are black, as is a bat taken from the club crest on the back collar.
REAL BETIS – Away
La Liga side Real Betis look to make their opponents green with envy in their new 2023-24 away kits, made by Hummel. The jerseys are green with an embossed chevron pattern all over. The green polo collar has white trim, and white panels on the shoulders house tonal Hummel chevrons.
WERDER BREMEN – Home
Another green-heavy offering from Hummel comes courtesy of German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, who unveiled their 2023-24 home kits on Friday, July 7. The front and sleeves of the kit feature narrow white and green stripes on one side, and two-tone green stripes on the other side. The back of the shirt is solid green for name and number legibility. The V-neck collar is green with a white stripe through the middle. White Hummel chevrons run down the shoulders.
EINTRACHT FRANKFURT – Away
After going with diagonal red and black stripes for their home kit, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt are going all-black for their 2023-24 away kit, made by Nike. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are white with red stripes through the middle, giving the shirt what the club calls a “timeless design.”
FSV MAINZ 05 – Home
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, FSV Mainz 05 are throwing it back for their 2023-24 home kit, their first under a new contract with supplier Jako. The red-and-white checkerboard pattern on the front of the shirt harkens back to the 1996-97 season, worn by club legends like Jürgen Klopp, Sven Demandt and Lars Schmidt. The sleeves and back are solid red, though the entire shirt is covered with a tonal geometric pattern that Mainz has used on almost every one of its kits in recent years. The sides of the collar are white, and the Mainz city emblem appears in white on the back collar.
SV DARMSTADT 98 – Home
Meanwhile, SV Darmstadt 98 are ready to kick off their first season back in the Bundesliga since 2016-17 in style thanks to new home kits made by Craft. The kits are predominantly blue with Darmstadt’s fleur-de-lis crest on the left chest. White stripes run up the sides of the shirt and loop around each shoulder. The V-neck collar has the same striping pattern, while the sleeve cuffs are solid white.
SS LAZIO – Home and Away
In Italy, SS Lazio are marking the 50th anniversary of their first Serie A championship with their home and away kits for 2023-24, made by Mizuno. The home kit is the club’s traditional light blue color, accented with white stripes on the collar and sleeve cuffs, with an embossed design of their Olympia eagle mascot on the front. The away kit is navy blue with a retro crest on the left chest, horizontal embossed stripes running across the front, and the colors of the Italian flag on the sleeve cuff trim.
CAGLIARI CALCIO – Home
After a year in Serie B, Cagliari Calcio is back in Italy’s top flight this season and will be sporting home kits made by Eye Sports. The jersey carries on Cagliari’s traditional half-red, half-blue motif and even extends it to the sleeves, cuffs and polo collar. The tonal concentric pattern covering both halves of the front of the jersey is “directly inspired by the Mother Goddess of Turriga, a cruciform statuette dating back to the 4th millennium BC, considered one of the most beautiful effigies depicting the female sacredness from all over the Mediterranean, now exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Cagliari.”
AFC AJAX – Home
Dutch Eredivisie powerhouses AFC Ajax have a good thing with their traditional home kit, and once again they’re not messing with it for 2023-24. The new home kit, made by Adidas, still features a broad red stripe down the front of the white shirt, though this year’s edition features narrow tonal stripes within that stripe. The club crest moves to the middle of the chest for the first time since 2018-19, a spot it occupied when it first adorned the Ajax shirt in the early 1970s. The collar and sleeve cuffs have red and white striping, and the Adidas shoulder stripes and taping down the sides and across the back hem are also red.
PSV EINDHOVEN – Home
While Ajax stick to tradition, their Eredivisie rivals PSV Eindhoven are switching things up with their 2023-24 home kits, made by Puma. Instead of their usual red and white vertical stripes, PSV have opted for tonal red stripes this year, saying in their online store that the pattern “exudes luxury and pays tribute to the club’s 110th anniversary” (translated to English by Google). The sleeve cuffs and sponsor logo are white, as is a chevron at the front of the red polo collar.
