Clubs from Portugal, Netherlands, Turkey Unveil New Kits for 2022-23

Outside of the Big 5 European soccer leagues (England, Germany, Spain, France and Italy), there are still plenty of clubs that are household names and assert themselves well in European competition. It’s mainly among these clubs that we found most of our kit unveilings over the past few days, including perennial domestic and European contenders from Portugal, the Netherlands and Turkey.

SPORTING CP – Home

For their 2022-23 home jersey, Portuguese Primeira Liga powerhouses Sporting CP and manufacturer Nike have flipped the script on their 2021-22 home kits. The 2022-23 version swaps the position of the green and white hoops from 2021-22, including putting green horizontal pinstripes inside the white hoops. The 2022-23 version also has solid green sleeves (which were white in 2021-22) and a black V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs (green in 2021-22).

FC PORTO – Away & Third

After success wearing yellow away kits in recent years, Portuguese Primeira Liga giants FC Porto are hoping for more of the same in 2022-23. Their new away kit, manufactured by New Balance, features a tonal yellow zigzag pattern running diagonally across the front. The yellow button-up grandad collar features dark blue trim. The wide sleeve cuffs are grey with a white stripe bordered in dark blue.

Meanwhile, FC Porto is reaching back to the 1980s for inspiration for its 2022-23 third kit. The jersey is solid blue, with a white V-neck collar and white piping on the shoulders. This is meant to evoke the kits worn by Porto in the 1984 European Cup Winners’ Cup final against Juventus.

Porto unveiled their 2022-23 home kits last week, keeping their traditional motif of blue and white vertical stripes.

AFC AJAX – Home

With 36 Dutch first division titles under their belts, defending Eredivisie champions AFC Ajax have earned the right to add a touch of gold to their 2022-23 home kits. Manufacturer Adidas has kept the usual broad red vertical stripe down the front of the white shirt, but added some gold borders to the white stripes running through the centre of the red V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs. Gold borders also appear on the white sponsor logo, the club crest and the three stars above it.

PSV EINDHOVEN – Away

Ajax’s Eredivisie counterparts PSV Eindhoven are looking to bring a little art to the pitch in 2022-23 with their new away kit. The tonal black checkboard pattern all over the jersey, manufactured by Puma, is meant to resemble the exterior of the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, which is home to more than 2,700 pieces of art. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs are red, as are the sponsor and Puma logos on the chest.

GALATASARAY – Home

Turkish Süper Lig giants Galatasaray are the latest club to unveil new kits using Nike’s latest Vaporknit template. Their traditional half-yellow, half-red is set off by black inserts at the front and back of the collar. Nike’s Dri-Fit ADV kit pattern covers the entire shirt. The club’s interlocking GS crest appears inside a black oval, with four stars above representing their 23 national first division titles (one for every five titles).
