They weren’t exactly heroes in a halfshell, but the Western Hockey League’s Lethbridge Hurricanes became a lean, green hockey machine to raise money for a good cause over the weekend.
On Saturday, November 4, the Hurricanes donned special Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed jerseys for their home matchup against the Portland Winterhawks. The jerseys were then auctioned off to raise money for children’s hospitals.
The black jerseys featured a graphic of all four ninja turtles on the front, with a “CANES” wordmark above and a bright green city skyline behind. The green skyline carried over to the sleeves, under green numbers with a white drop shadow. The WHL logo appears on the right chest, while the logo of manufacturer CCM appears on the left chest.
The Hurricanes’ primary logo appears on each shoulder, along with the Children’s Miracle Network logo on the left shoulder and the logo of sponsor RE/MAX on the right shoulder.
The back of the jersey has a bright green pattern radiating out from the center, and white numbers with a black drop shadow. A black bar at the top contains the player’s name in a white block font. The Canadian Hockey League and Nickelodeon logos appear near the back hem.
The jerseys were paired with the dark blue helmets, pants, gloves and socks from the Hurricanes’ alternate uniforms introduced earlier this season.
Game-worn jerseys are being auctioned off to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. The auction ends on Thursday, November 9, at 9 p.m. MT.
Fans were encouraged to dress up as their favorite TMNT characters at Saturday’s game, with prizes given out all game long. There was a TMNT photobooth at the game, and the first 1,000 fans received special mini sticks.
