Dallas Stars Announce Throwback Uniform for 2018

For the upcoming 2017-18 season the Dallas Stars will be celebrating their 25th in Texas with a special jersey patch, a jersey number retirement, and now a throwback uniform.

Earlier this morning the Stars announced they would be donning the home jersey from their inaugural season in Dallas during a pre-game skate on February 3rd vs the Minnesota Wild (we see you trollin!), a photo of that jersey is featured at the top of this post.

The Stars moved from Minnesota (where they were known as the “North Stars”) to the Lone Star State in time for the 1993-94 season, at the time the club had called Minnesota home since 1967-68 and just celebrated their own 25th anniversary a season earlier.

Despite the name change Dallas brought the North Stars logo, uniform, and colour scheme with them adding only “DALLAS” above the wordmark in the logo (but not on the jersey), and a shoulder patch in the shape of Texas. The “DALLAS” wordmark was added to the uniform in the 1995 season.

The Stars dropped the “North” but brought the logo, uniforms, and colours from Minnesota

The Stars would go on to win the Stanley Cup in their sixth season following the relocation and they made a repeat appearance in the Final the following season. Minnesota would get a new expansion franchise —  the aforementioned Wild — who began play in 2000-01, the year after the Dallas Stars made their last trip to the Final.

Dallas retained the logo originally used by North Stars through 2013, making slight colour adjustments along the way. The Stars overhauled their look for the 2013-14 season, it’s still use today.
