The Anaheim Ducks are going to look a little mightier on the ice as they celebrate their 30th anniversary season with a new retro-inspired uniform this year.
Unveiled during their watch party at tonight’s 2023 NHL Draft, the new “anniversary season third uniform” brings back the classic Mighty Ducks of Anaheim purple/eggplant and teal/jade but with a new crest on the front of the sweater. Jade, white, and silver stripes are along the waist and each arm with a purple collar.
“As we enter our 30th Anniversary season it’s exciting to reveal a new jersey our fans can be proud of,” said Ducks Vice President of Marketing Merit Tully in the team’s press release. “This jersey is a symbol of our journey the last 30 years, our successful history and a nod to our origins. It was designed internally in a collaborative effort by organizational departments up to ownership, and we are excited for our players to wear it with honour this upcoming season.”
Within the silver stripe, we see, slightly hidden, the words “ANAHEIM DUCKS EST. 2006” noting the franchise, originally granted for the 1993-94 season, made a change 13 years later when they dropped the “Mighty” from their name. Inside the collar is perhaps my favourite part of the design, the inclusion of the word “MIGHTY” in the team’s original wordmark font.
The circular Wild Wing mask crest logo is the club’s old shoulder patch, first worn from 1995/96 through 2005/06, altered slightly to reflect the current team name. The Ducks current primary mark, a webbed duck foot in the shape of a “D” is included at the bottom of the logo as is a new yellow line on either side.
Anaheim will début the new uniform during their home opener on October 15th against the Carolina Hurricanes. It will then be worn during select theme games throughout the Ducks’ 30th anniversary season, exact dates still to be announced. At this time is intended to be a single-season uniform, but you know how these things have a funny way of changing.
Fans can pre-order the jersey now through the Ducks official website here (not a site affiliate link).
We’ll wrap this post up with a few more detailed jersey shots, all of which are courtesy of the Anaheim Ducks (check out that puffy crest! just like the old days):
