Freshly off a Triple-A national title and recognition as Minor League Baseball’s “Team of the Year,” the Durham Bulls unveiled three new jerseys that hearken back to a different era in the team’s history.
The home white and road gray jerseys will looks familiar to movie buffs—they’re modeled after the team’s iconic look from the 1980s and 1990s, notably featured in the 1988 classic movie Bull Durham. The chest logo is similar to one worn by the team in recent years, but with the word “Bulls” in stacked type down the vertical stroke of the capital D. The jerseys include orange, white, and blue stripes on the sleeves and collars.
“We’re very excited to be returning to an iconic look in our franchise’s history,” said Durham Bulls Vice President, Baseball Operations Mike Birling in a statement. “Many players went on to great success in their careers after wearing these jerseys in the 1980s and 1990s, and we look forward to the next group of players to follow in their footsteps.”
An alternate blue jersey features the city’s nickname, “Bull City,” in script on the front. The sleeves feature patterns representing city landmarks, including the Lucky Strike Water Tower and Eno River, as well as the local area code, 919, The Triangle, the team’s ballpark, Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and images representing the movie Bull Durham, among other imagery.
The Bulls will debut their road jerseys April 5 and the home whites a week later.
