Edmonton Oilers Bring Back Original Blues for 2022-23

We all knew this day would come… yes, the Edmonton Oilers are going back to wearing royal blue jerseys for home games as well as their original, lighter shade of blue throughout their logos and road white set.

Dark navy blue is gone, the orange home jersey is gone. Royal blue at home with orange shoulders, white on the road with royal blue shoulders, the navy blue alternate uniform with orange trim remains.

The Oilers have worn royal blue as their primary dark uniform colour for most of their franchise’s existance in the NHL. Its first run was from 1979-80 though 1995-96, including five Stanley Cup championships. A late ’90s darkening of colours followed with the team wearing dark navy blue as the primary darks from 1996-97 to 2008-09. The original royal blues returned full-time from 2009-10 until 2016-17 when the team shifted away from blue by wearing orange right up until the end of the 2021-22 season.

“We are excited to re-introduce these iconic jerseys and are grateful for the input from both the leadership group in our locker room and our great fans,” said Stew MacDonald, Edmonton Oilers President and Chief Revenue Officer. “There is a great history to this jersey, including five Stanley Cup championships, and we look forward to the team creating many more historic moments in blue and orange starting this fall.”
