Field Design Revealed For 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship Between Georgia And TCU

The field design for tonight’s College Football Playoff National Championship between top-ranked Georgia and No. 3 TCU has been revealed.

The College Football Playoff logo is prominently displayed at midfield above the national championship wordmark, just as it has been since the inaugural title game in 2015.

There’s also a “Los Angeles” wordmark at the 50-yard line, as the game takes place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams.

As has become customary in the College Football Playoff National Championship, both end zones include the team wordmarks and the playoff logo against a black background.

There was only one season in which the title game did not include black end zones, as No. 1 LSU knocked off No. 2 Clemson, 42-25, at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans in 2020 with grass-colored backgrounds.

That’s not to be confused with Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where the Bulldogs fell to Alabama in overtime, 26-23, in the 2018 national championship. That game featured a red Georgia wordmark against a black background.

That same design was used in last year’s 33-18 win over the Crimson Tide in Indianapolis and will return tonight as the Bulldogs look to capture their second straight national title.

That said, Georgia is 2-1 in the playoff with this end zone design, including the 54-48 double-overtime victory over Oklahoma in the 2018 Rose Bowl, albeit with a black out-of-bounds area surrounding the end zone.

This will be the Horned Frogs’ first appearance in the national championship game, meanwhile. They had a purple background in the end zone during their 51-45 win over Michigan in last month’s Fiesta Bowl.

The field design is complete with the 2023 playoff logo – which will be worn by both teams on the left shoulder of their jerseys – at the 25-yard lines, as well as Georgia and TCU’s logos on their respective sidelines.

As for what the teams will be wearing tonight, the Bulldogs will be in their standard home uniforms as the higher-ranked team, while the Horned Frogs will don black helmets, white jerseys and black pants.

The team in white is 6-2 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, while Georgia is 0-1 in its home uniform in the title game. That bodes well for TCU this evening.
