Fiesta Bowl Unveils 50th Game Commemorative Logo

The Fiesta Bowl will celebrate its 50th game this January with a commemorative logo, which was unveiled earlier this month.

“When fans think about the Fiesta Bowl, they know that some of college football’s most memorable moments happened here in Arizona and in every decade of our 50-year existence,” Fiesta Bowl Organization executive director Mike Nealy said in a statement. “This allows us to honor the key players in our successful history and to celebrate all that we have accomplished on and off the field.”

The logo includes the Fiesta Bowl’s trademark sunburst and script, along with a large “50” on top of a football. It will be worn as a patch and placed at the 50-yard line during the 2021 PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Jan. 2 and will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Established in 1971, the Fiesta Bowl was the first bowl game to secure a title sponsor. It was sponsored by Sunkist from 1986-90, IBM from 1993-95, Tostitos from 1996 through January 2014, Vizio in December 2014, BattleFrog in January 2016 and PlayStation from December 2016 through today.

Originally played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, before it moved to University of Phoenix Stadium (now known as State Farm Stadium) in 2007, the Fiesta Bowl has determined the national champion on seven different occasions and featured 12 Heisman Trophy winners. That said, this season’s rendition is not part of the College Football Playoff rotation, nor does it have specific conference tie-ins.
