Florida State To Honor Late Coach Bobby Bowden With Signature On Back Helmet Bumper

The Florida State football program will celebrate the life of legendary head coach Bobby Bowden, who passed away last month at the age of 91 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, with various tributes throughout the 2021 season.

That includes placing Bowden’s signature on the back bumper of the Seminoles’ gold helmets, as well as a patch with his iconic hat and signature on the sleeve of each coach’s polo.

That same logo will be painted on the 25-yard lines opposite of the ACC marks, as well as displayed on a banner above the tunnel in the south end zone of Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Bowden won 357 games, including two national championships, with the Seminoles from 1976-2009, which ranks second all time behind Penn State’s Joe Paterno (409 victories). He produced 30 first-round NFL Draft picks, 26 consensus All-Americans and two Heisman Trophies, and led Florida State to 28 straight bowl appearances.

“It was a collaborative effort,” Florida State head coach Mike Norvell said. “We want to make sure that we do it right. For what he means to this university, we want to make that we show the respect in all phases, in all ways. It really plays with what we’re doing. I’m just excited for who he was for this program and the opportunity we have to represent him.”

The Seminoles open the season by hosting Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 5. Kickoff against the Fighting Irish is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
