The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is marking its 150th anniversary with a special retro kit for the country’s national teams.
The Cymru 150th Anniversary jersey, made by adidas, was unveiled earlier this week on the FAW’s website and social media platforms. It channels the aesthetic of 1876 with a solid red body accented with a white polo collar and white cuffs on the long sleeves.

Designed with a slim fit and knit construction, the jersey offers a sleek silhouette built for on-field performance, while retaining a clean, heritage-inspired aesthetic. More than a kit, it represents a shared footballing identity, worn by players and supporters alike over a century and a half of history.
The Cymru 150th Anniversary Jersey stands as a symbol of pride, continuity and belonging, celebrating the enduring connection between Welsh football, its communities and Y Wal Goch.

The only embellishment on the collar and cuffs is a single raised stripe. A special version of the Welsh national team crest sits on the left chest, with banners outlined in gold above and below. The top banner includes the years 1876 and 2026, while the bottom banner reads “GORAU CHWARAE CYD CHWARAE” (“Best to play together,” according to Google Translate).

The retro adidas trefoil logo on the chest is red, blending in with the rest of the shirt. The brand’s usual three stripes down the shoulders and sleeves have not been included on this jersey.

The FAW was founded on February 2, 1876, at the Wynnstay Arms Hotel in Wrexham, making it the third-oldest national football association in the world.
The Welsh men’s team still has a chance to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer in Canada, the United States and Mexico. They’ll play Bosnia and Herzegovina in a playoff semifinals on March 26 in Cardiff. If they win that game, they’ll play the winner of the other Path A semifinal between Italy and Northern Ireland for a spot in Group B alongside Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.
Meanwhile, the women’s gets their qualifying campaign for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup underway on March 3 with a match against the Czech Republic. Their qualifying group also includes Albania and Montenegro.
