Frisco RoughRiders to play as Los Jinetes on Cinco de Mayo

The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, will commemorate Cinco de Mayo with specialty uniforms and a Spanish-language nickname, Los Jinetes, which translates roughly to horse riders.

The uniforms include “Los Jinetes” in the RoughRiders script, plus three elements that pay tribute to Texas’s Mexican-American heritage. First, the front and back of the jerseys feature a pattern that evokes traditional Mexican blankets called serapes. Second, the interior of the uniform numbers is textured with a pattern from the Mayan calendar. And finally, the uniform sleeves will include La Catrina, the iconic skull face that has become emblematic of Día de los Muertos.
