Galatasaray, Sporting Lisbon Unveil New Nike Third Kits for 2021-22

Two of Europe’s biggest football clubs unveiled new third kits made by Nike on Tuesday as continental competition heats up.

As they get set to take part in the UEFA Champions League, Lisbon-based Sporting CP of Portugal’s Primeira Liga unveiled a wild new third kit on Tuesday. It features black stripes on a dark green base, with a black V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs. The stripes are “inspired by the fighting spirit present in Sporting CP DNA, with hints of a camouflage pattern, and the campaign highlights the club’s eclecticism,” according to the club’s website. (Honestly, they look more like zebra or tiger stripes than camouflage to me, but hey, I’m no zoologist.)

The back of the shirt has a solid green panel for names and numbers. The Nike logo and sponsor logos appear in white.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, perennial Süper Lig contenders Galatasaray unveiled a new third kit as they get set to take part in this season’s UEFA Europa League competition. The base of the jersey is an off-white or cream colour, with a tonal grunge pattern on the front.

The sleeves and back of the jersey are solid cream, and the Nike logo on the chest is red.

The club crest has received an interesting treatment: The letters on the white oval, the year “1905” and the four stars above it are split down the middle, with the left half yellow and the right half red. This mimics the usual yellow-red split on Galatasaray’s home jerseys. Typically, the G in Galatasaray’s crest is red and the S is yellow.

Galatsaray plays Italian side Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday, while Sporting CP opens its Champions League campaign against Dutch side AFC Ajax on Wednesday.
