The Houston Astros will wear the logo of the Occidental Petroleum Corporation (or “OXY” as it is commonly abbreviated) on the sleeve of their jerseys throughout the 2023 season.
The patch shows the company’s logo, which features “OXY” in red lettering on a white circle with two blue lines, one above and one below. Occidental Petroleum is headquartered out of Houston.
According to various Twitter reports, the patch will remain in its usual red, white, and blue colour scheme on the Astros uniforms despite the fact it could easily match the club’s colours with a slight darkening of blue and by adding a dash of yellow to the red. The corporate logo will be re-coloured gold to match the Astros’ special gold-infused 2022 World Series Champions uniforms that they’ll wear for the first two games of the 2023 season.
The Astros announcement of this new patch deal brings us up to five of Major League Baseball’s thirty clubs committing to wearing an advertisement on their in-game uniforms — the San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Los Angeles Angels are the others. This patch announcement also all but assures that the team will not wear a 2022 World Champions patch on their uniforms this season.
