Inland Empire 66ers wonder what might have been as Cherubs

When the Inland Empire 66ers gave their logos a much-needed overhaul in 2014, the team considered going a step further and completely rebranding. One nickname that they seriously considered was Cherubs. That identity would have been a play on the team’s relationship with its parent club in Anaheim, since cherubs are essentially baby angels.

Ultimately, they stuck with their automotive-themed 66ers brand, but six years later, just days before Valentines Day, the 66ers announced that they will play one game this season wondering what might have been if they had gone that other route.

Inland Empire unveiled a Cherubs logo featuring that most famous of the tubby, baby angels, Cupid, slinging his trademark arrow and sporting a halo that will look familiar to fans of the big league club in Anaheim.

“With the Angels being the parent club of the 66ers, the Cherubs theme is a fun and unique way for us to play off of the persona of our affiliate,” said 66ers General Manager Joe Hudson, quoted on MiLB.com, “and to connect with our Angels fan-base on another level.”

The Cherubs will take the field May 22, and uniforms will be auctioned off to benefit the Making Hope Happen Foundation.
