Las Vegas Desert Dogs, NLL Expansion Club, Announces Name & Logo

The new Las Vegas-based National Lacrosse League expansion team owned by a group including Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash, and Dustin Johnson has a name and a logo.

Meet, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs.

The Desert Dogs are set to begin play this December at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay on the Las Vegas Strip. Their name was chosen because a “desert dog represents all the Las Vegas lacrosse embodies,” which they say includes such qualities as being scrappy and cunning, friendly yet fierce, and powerful alone while also unstoppable as a pack (and also maybe because Las Vegas is located in a desert).

The logo is black and white to resemble the desert nights, or as the team describes it “dark as a starry night, bright as the desert light.” The design shows a dog facing the viewer with an “LV” on its forehead with crossed lacrosse sticks behind it.

The “sleek nature of the dog and font represent the forward-thinking and tech-oriented vibe and energy of Las Vegas and our team,” says the Desert Dogs website, “sharp lines exude our scrappiness, aggression and fierceness.”

Founded in 1986, originally as the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League (and later Major Indoor Lacrosse League), with the addition of the Desert Dogs, the National Lacrosse League now has 15 teams spread out across Canada and the United States.
