A photograph made the rounds last night showing a new leaked set of Phoenix Suns uniforms for the 2022-23 season. This morning, the design of the “SUNS” wordmark, colours, and player numbers shown in the graphic was confirmed by SportsLogos.Net’s highly reliable sources. The shooting sun, however, cannot be 100% confirmed by our sources (fingers crossed, amiright?).
In a Tweet originally posted by @skunwong32 and then later circulated (where I saw it) by @BackThePurpleAZ a few days later, the graphic shows two Suns jerseys — one purple, one white, with a shooting sunburst laid out diagonally across the front culminating in a basketball pattern on the sun itself.
The streaking sun element is in black trimmed in orange on the purple shirt; while on the white, it’s taking on the same colour as the base with the same orange outline showing. The clever “SUNS” ambigram wordmark logo appears within the tail of this sun, in white trimmed in orange on the purple and in purple decorated in orange on the white. Player numbers follow the same colour scheme as the wordmark, black and orange trim around the neck and arms.

This design immediately recalls the classic Charles Barkley-era Suns uniforms, worn originally from 1992 to 2000, which also featured a shooting sun across the chest. A somewhat vague reference to this shooting sun design returned in 2013, worn for three seasons, it contained the streak marks of the sun leading towards the player’s number.
When this design is implemented by the Suns – likely during the Summer of 2022, it’ll be their third significant uniform change in ten seasons for the team.
