Hello world, they’re your soccer girls — they’re the (Portland) ch-ch-ch-Cherry Bombs!
Portland Cherry Bombs FC, who are set to join the USL W League in 2026, unveiled their name, crest and wordmark on their website and social media channels this week. With the identity, the club hopes to brings the aesthetic and spirit of punk rock and Riot Grrrl music to the pitch.
The Oregon-based club’s primary crest features a red cherry with eyes and lips — dubbed Mary T. Cherry, a “fierce and unapologetic spark of rebellion” — at the centre of a white roundel, which is meant to look like a vinyl record as a nod to Portland’s music scenes. An outline of Mt. Hood runs through the roundel, with “PORTLAND” written out above and “CHERRY BOMBS” below. A spark at the end of the cherry’s stem contains the initials “FC.”

The Portland Cherry Bombs crest celebrates the city’s creative passion and fearless spirit. Its circular shape echoes a vinyl record, an homage to Portland’s storied music scene. The cherry’s stem ignites into a fuse, symbolizing the explosive energy driving women’s sports, while Mt. Hood and the cherry orchards that grow all around it anchors the design in our Pacific Northwest home.

The team’s wordmark, meanwhile, features the team’s name spelled out in various fonts, with the cherry from the chest standing in as the O in “BOMBS.”
Fierce, unapologetic, and fueled by Portland’s rebel spirit. Each letter in the Cherry Bombs wordmark is inspired by Riot Grrrl zines, legends of the game, album art and more, celebrating the history of women’s soccer and the punk-fueled creativity that has shaped Portland’s identity. Bold reds, blacks, and pinks reflect the city’s energy, attitude, and love of self-expression.
