Los Angeles Dodgers Remember Vin Scully with Jersey Patch

The Los Angeles Dodgers are paying tribute to the memory of longtime broadcaster Vin Scully with a special jersey patch for the remainder of the 2022 season.

The patch shows “VIN” in white lettering above a rendering of a radio microphone also in white. These elements are placed upon a black circle trimmed in Dodger blue and worn on the right sleeve of their uniforms.

Scully was 94 years old when he died earlier this week; he spent a remarkable 67 years behind the microphone for the Dodgers, even pre-dating their relocation to Los Angeles. Scully’s first game for the Dodgers was on Opening Day 1950, a Brooklyn Dodgers loss on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies.

During his seven decades with the Dodgers, Scully relayed the play-by-play of Dodgers legends such as Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Sandy Koufax, and Don Drysdale right up to some of today’s legends of tomorrow like Clayton Kershaw. Scully was with the Dodgers from 1950 until the end of the 2016 season.

“We mourn the loss of a legend in our game,” said Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred in a statement released by the league. “Vin was an extraordinary man whose gift for broadcasting brought joy to generations of Dodger fans. In addition, his voice played a memorable role in some of the greatest moments in the history of our sport. I am proud that Vin was synonymous with Baseball because he embodied the very best of our National Pastime. As great as he was as a broadcaster, he was equally great as a person.”
