If you’ve ever wanted to design a jersey worn in a professional baseball game, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos have just the deal for you.
For two-hundred American dollars, fans can buy the opportunity to hand-colour a jersey that the Miami Marlins Double-A club will wear for their game on August 13 against the Birmingham Barons. Each player will wear a different coloured jersey creating a unique and almost All-Star Game-like look across the team in which every player has a different design.
Purchasing fans will be provided with a colouring book version of a Blue Wahoos jersey, the team name scripted across the front in white with black outlines, and the player number on the back in the same fashion. Fans will have to submit their designs ahead of schedule and have them approved by the club to ensure they meet Minor League Baseball’s guidelines for on-field uniforms. Things like, are the numbers legible? Are there any corporate logos on there? any hidden naughty messages?)
“We’re very excited to offer our fans this first-of-its-kind opportunity,” Blue Wahoos president Jonathan Griffith said on their official website. “Never before has a team had every player and coach take the field in a different uniform created by a different fan, and it will be a lot of fun to see the creativity and unique ideas of our fans come to life and take the field.”
Jerseys will be hand-coloured by the fan who purchased each jersey under the supervision of club officials at the team ballpark. Jerseys must be coloured in person and done at least seven days before the ballgame on August 13. If a fan cannot be in person to do so, their design will be done by another. Fans will get to keep their game-worn jersey designs, and they will be autographed by the player or coach who wears them.
