The Miami Heat will be playing their 35th season of NBA basketball this year, and to celebrate this divisible-by-five milestone, they’ll be wearing a throwback uniform.
Going all the way back to Day One, the Heat will be wearing their original home white uniform design as their 2022-23 Classic Edition uniform for a series of games this season. Per NBA rules, “Classic Edition” uniforms can only be worn for a single season before they must be tossed right back into the closet.
The original Miami Heat home uniform is white with red, white, and orange striping around each arm and the collar. Across the chest is a “HEAT” wordmark in red with white and black trim, the end of the “T” shows a single flame. The player’s number is below in a standard serifed jersey number typeface in red with white and black trim on a red drop shadow. As is the case with all “Classic Edition” tops, the retro version of the Nike logo is placed in the top left corner.

On the back of the jersey, we see the same style for the player’s number as on the front; the player’s name is arched above it in red with white and black trim. Finally, the NBA logo is placed at the top, centred above it all, in its Hardwood Classic series colours — darker blue, darker red, and cream instead of white. Classic Edition jerseys do not include the gold NBA championship tab on the back.
The Heat wore this uniform style from their expansion season in 1988-89 right up through the end of the 1998-99 season. It was worn by Hall of Famers such as Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway as the Heat experienced highs (a 61-21 record in 1996-97) and lows (a 15-67 record in 1988-89).
