While Montana won’t play football this fall after the Big Sky Conference postponed sports until the spring, the Grizzlies unveiled new uniforms earlier this month that harken back to head coach Bobby Hauck’s first stint in Missoula.
Montana won at least a share of the Big Sky in all seven seasons under Hauck’s guidance from 2003-09 and appeared in three Football Championship Subdivision title games, though the Grizzlies lost to James Madison in 2004, Richmond in 2008 and Villanova in 2009.
The new uniforms aren’t an exact replica of what the program wore at the time, as the original set had gray numbers and UCLA stripes on the shoulders, as shown above. But the Montana wordmark on the chest is much larger than it has been in recent years, once again becoming a focal point of the entire look.
The Grizzlies replaced their paw print secondary logo on the sleeves with double stripes and added television numbers to the shoulders and the iconic script Griz to the collar. Both the gray home and maroon road pants once again feature stripes, as well.
