NCAA Reveals Court Designs For Men’s Basketball Tournament

The NCAA on Monday afternoon unveiled renderings of the court designs for several rounds of the upcoming men’s basketball tournament, including the First Four, first round, second round, Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.

The courts are two-tone wood with the NCAA March Madness logo at center court, while the sidelines and baselines are primarily blue but feature a second color that changes based on location. The location and the arena’s name can be seen on the sideline, whereas the round and phrase “The Road To The Final Four” is displayed on the baseline.

The entire tournament will be held in Indiana this spring in an effort to create a bubble, of sorts, amid the coronavirus pandemic, with the First Four and some first round games taking place at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Those games will be hosted by Purdue and Indiana, respectively, so their primary logos are placed in top right and bottom left corners where the sidelines and baselines meet.

The accent color in Bloomington is red, naturally, while the accent color in West Lafayette is light blue.

The first and second round of the tournament will also be held at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts; Bankers Life Fieldhouse, home of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers; Hinkle Fieldhouse, home of the Butler Bulldogs; and Indiana Farmers Coliseum, home of the IUPUI Jaguars.

The games at Lucas Oil Stadium will be hosted by the Horizon League and played on courts with green accents and the games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will be hosted by Ball State and played on courts with red accents. Those games at Hinkle Fieldhouse and Indiana Farmers Coliseum will be hosted by their usual tenants but feature orange and purple accent colors, respectively.

The courts for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, meanwhile, are stripped back to include a simple a blue, black and silver color scheme. Placement of the colors varies by location, with the location and arena outlined in blue for the games played at Hinkle Fieldhouse but outlined in black for the games played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The same goes for the Elite Eight games played at Lucas Oil Stadium, depending on the side of the bracket.

The court for the Final Four, which will also take place at Lucas Oil Stadium on April 3 and 5, will be revealed at a later date.
