New National Team Kits Unveiled for Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Slovenia

Amid the avalanche of national team jerseys released by Puma yesterday, four other, smaller European nations have also unveiled new kits over the past week.

Slovenia, Moldova and Armenia all unveiled new jerseys in the past few days, while Georgia released both new kits and a new national team crest. None of these four nations qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, kicking off in November.

Let’s take a closer look at these kits:

GEORGIA

The biggest news from the Georgian Football Federation is a new crest for their national teams. It is based on the country’s coat of arms and depicts St. George — the former Soviet republic’s patron saint — slaying a dragon, and can be used either with the surrounding shield or without.

The GFF retains its own logo for institutional use, with the letters “GFF” spelled out overtop of a circle containing the country’s flag.

The GFF also released artist’s renditions of new kits designed by Macron. The home kit is white with a red vertical stripe down the center and a red stripe running down each sleeve. The red away kit swaps includes black stripes on the sleeves and a black collar. And the black third kit includes a tonal vertical stripe down the center and a red collar.

MOLDOVA

Moldova’s new kits, manufactured by Jako, feature a tonal pattern of the Tree of Life, “the ancient symbol that represents continuous life and eternal youth.” Each tree is crowned with a rose, symbolizing “love, beauty, family, wisdom and devotion.”

All three kits — the blue home, yellow away and red third — also feature traditional Moldovan patterns on the side stripes and sleeve cuffs. The away kit is the only one of the three to feature contrasting raglan sleeves.

ARMENIA

Armenia’s new home kits, also made by Macron, are mostly red, with white sleeve cuffs and shoulder inserts. A pattern of interlocking geometric shapes becomes more visible as the base fades from red to blue as you move up the shirt.

The away kit is white, with gold sleeve cuffs and shoulder inserts. The geometric pattern from the home shirt is repeated in light grey on the sleeves of the away shirt, and a brush stroke representation of the Armenian flag wraps around the left side. The Armenian coat of arms sits on the left chest of both shirts.

SLOVENIA

Slovenia’s new home and away kits are made by Nike, who used their Vaporknit III teamwear template with its distinctive fingerprint pattern on the sleeves. Both the white home shirt and blue away shirt feature a vertical stripe down the center made of navy blue diamonds.

Just above where the stripe is interrupted to provide a space for player numbers, there is a depiction of Mt. Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia. This design won a public vote held in late 2021.
