The New Orleans Saints will wear their black alternate helmets for the second time this season when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this evening on Monday Night Football (8:15 p.m. on ESPN).
The black helmets features the Saints’ primary logo on both sides, as well a gold fleur-de-lis pattern down the center – mimicking the feather pattern on the Seattle Seahawks’ current helmet – and a black facemask.
The front bumper features a “Saints” wordmark, while the back bumper includes “New Orleans” underneath oversized uniform numbers, which are smaller and contained within the black stripe on the Saints’ gold helmets.
While New Orleans wore black helmets with a traditional striping pattern during the 1969 preseason, these alternate lids made their regular-season debut in the Saints’ 28-25 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London on Oct. 2.
The helmets are paired with New Orleans’ all-white Color Rush set, which they’ve worn every season since 2016, as the NFL requires them to be part of an alternate uniform. They were previously worn with gold helmets.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, will counter with its standard home uniform of pewter helmets and pants with red jerseys on Monday night.
The Buccaneers are 1-2 in this specific combination this season, with losses to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 23 and Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 27, as well as a win over the Seattle Seahawks in Germany on Nov. 13.
