New York Jets To Wear Ukrainian Flag Helmet Decals In Week 3

In addition to making a $1 million donation to aid the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, the New York Jets will wear a decal of the Ukrainian flag on their helmets during this Sunday’s against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has personally impacted team owner and chairman Woody Johnson and his wife, Suzanne, whose father is a Ukrainian immigrant and mother is a first-generation Ukrainian-American.

“It is important to us to provide assistance to organizations making a true difference on the ground,” Suzanne Johnson said. “My family and I are heartbroken by the devastation and loss and are praying for the individuals who have become refugees and those still living and working in Ukraine.”

The donations will be split among 10 organizations, which each receiving $100,000. Five recipients have already been announced, with the most recent organizations – CityServe Krakow Housing Project – also receiving the proceeds from the game’s 50/50 raffle.

“These donations will positively impact Ukrainian refugees and their families with essential supplies,” Woody Johnson said. “The need for resources is continuously growing. Our thoughts continue to be with the innocent lives who have been affected and all those who are suffering.”

The Ukrainian flag will also be pained in the end zones at MetLife Stadium for Sunday’s game, which kicks off at 1 p.m. on CBS.
