More than 200 NFL players will celebrate the “growing number of nationalities and cultures that make up the fabric of the league” by wearing international flags on their helmets in Weeks 4 and 5.
That includes Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (South Korea), Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (Germany) and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Samoa).
Coaches and executives, such as New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick (Croatia) and Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera (Puerto Rico), will wear a pin displaying their flag of choice, meanwhile.
“The NFL is proud of the extensive collection of nationalities and heritage of its players across the League,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “We recognize the many cultures they represent and the excitement they bring to their home fans, which ultimately helps grow our game.”
Those players, coaches and executives who have decided to wear the international flag alongside the American flag on their helmets must have lived in the country or territory of their choice for two or more years or have a parent or grandparent who was born there.
More than 50 nations and territories to be represented over the next two weekends.
