NHL Throwback Uniform News: Sharks, Caps, Pens, Habs

Habs winter classic

Tomorrow night in Montreal, the Canadiens will battle the Boston Bruins in a re-match of the 2016 Winter Classic, and the Habs will do so wearing those very same Winter Classic uniforms.

No word yet on if the Bruins will join the fun and wear their Winter Classic uniforms too, but they did wear them this weekend at home in their win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. With the Habs wearing white at home and the Bruins on just a one-game road trip it would only make sense that they’d also partake. Expect it.

Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks will take to the ice tonight against the Ottawa Senators wearing their epic teal throwback uniforms, their latest in a string of throwback uniform games in tribute to the 25th anniversary of the Northern California-based hockey team. Ottawa will not be wearing their 90s uniforms.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will break out their increasingly popular black and “Pittsburgh gold” retro uniforms on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers.

We recently confirmed the rumours that the Pens would be changing their uniforms for 2016-17, with that news confirmed the rumour mill quickly decided this must be the new home jersey. We cannot confirm that.

We missed this by a day but no fear, they’re coming back real soon. The Washington Capitals wore their new alternate uniforms yesterday against the New York Rangers, the uniforms are a straight-up copy of their road red, white, and blue star-clad 1980s uniforms.

Washington will wear these uniforms *five more times* in the next two weeks alone, the next one this Sunday against Pittsburgh.
