As the chill of winter approaches and the Halloween decorations are tucked away for another year, hockey fans are being given the greatest treat of all. A new logo.
This morning, the National Hockey League unveiled the logo for the 2024 Stadium Series—an upcoming series of outdoor games to be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
As has been the case a few times in the past, but not for a few years, this year’s Stadium Series will consist of a couple of games – both of which will be held at MetLife. First, the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers will faceoff on February 17, followed by the New York Islanders and Rangers the next day.
The logo features “STADIUM SERIES” across the front with “Stadium” displayed in a “progressive, larger-than-life” typeface which is meant to evoke “the futuristic feel of the Stadium Series brand,” while the scripted “Series” bit “adds to the modern and free-flowing style” of the game.
Behind the wordmark is a state map of New Jersey in black with red trim; the top portion of the shield displays a series of horizontal lines – a nod to the exterior architecture of MetLife Stadium. Two green lines trim the bottom of the graphic, in what they’re calling a reference to New Jersey’s state nickname of “The Garden State.”
NHL STADIUM SERIES LOGO HISTORY
This will be the tenth season in which the NHL has held its outdoor Stadium Series games; this particular event differs from the other regular outdoor games—the Heritage Classic, and Winter Classic—in that it focuses on a more futuristic overall package with its unorthodox uniforms featuring large logos and shiny chrome helmets versus the ultra-traditional style of the other outdoor games.
Like the rest of you, I’m eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the themed team logos and uniforms for this event, hopefully, we’ll get those in the coming weeks. Be sure to stay tuned to SportsLogos.Net for more information when it’s available!
