Nike, NFL Announce 10-Year Contract Extension

The NFL announced on Wednesday morning a 10-year contract extension with Nike that will keep the apparel manufacturer as the league’s exclusive on-field outfitter though the 2038 season.

“This partnership renewal is a testament to the strength and success of our collaboration with the NFL,” Nike president and CEO Elliott Hill said in a statement. “As we embark on this new chapter, we’re committed to co-creating cutting-edge solutions that meet the rapidly changing needs of NFL athletes and fans, while fueling the league’s growth and development initiatives.”

Nike has provided uniforms, as well as sideline and practice gear, to all 32 NFL teams since 2012. The company played a large role in the league’s Color Rush program in 2015 and the introduction of second and third helmet designs after the NFL relaxed its one-helmet rule in 2022.

“Nike has been an invaluable partner since 2012 and we couldn’t be more excited to have them on board for years to come,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. “In addition to their products and services for our clubs, players or fans, Nike is a strategic partner who will help us grow football internationally, support youth football and make advances in player safety.

“The renewal of this partnership will truly have a lasting impact on the game of football at all levels, both here in the United States and around the world.”

With the contract initially set to expire at the end of the 2027 season, the NFL reportedly considered offers from other apparel companies in October amid widespread complaints about Nike’s handling of MLB’s uniforms.

That same month, Nike announced a 12-year contract extension with the NBA that runs through the 2036-37 season. Financial terms of the extensions with the NBA and NFL were not disclosed.
